Acupressure (Back to Top)

Acupressure is a form of bodywork similar to acupuncture, with the aim of stimulating specific points along the energy lines of the body to establish overall health and vitality by balancing your Qi (energy) flow. Unlike acupuncture, however, hands are used to apply pressure to the specific points rather than needles, producing similar therapeutic results.

Acupuncture (Back to Top)

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 4,000 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most widely researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine in the U.S.

According to Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body.  Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow. The many benefits of this type of therapy include:

  • Pain reduction
  • Relaxation of body and mind
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Increased energy levels
  • Aids with digestion and toxin removal
  • Improved internal organ function
  • Relief from bad habits and addictions
  • Greater sense of overall well-being

Ashiatsu (Back to Top)

Ashiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork brought to us by Buddhist monks. The word Ashiatsu comes from "ashi" (foot) and "atsu" (pressure). Oriental Bar Therapy, sometimes referred to as barefoot Ashiatsu, is performed on the massage table while the therapist supports herself with wooden bars suspended from the ceiling while applying different foot strokes along the body. Using the pressure of the therapist's feet on strategic points along the back and spine, a push-pull-pumping affect is created on the soft tissue that surrounds the muscles. Through extensive research this massage modality is now a well-documented, effective, non-surgical technique for the treatment of chronic lower back and neck pain.

Chair Massage (Back to Top)

Using an ergonomic chair, the client is placed face-forward in a seated chair. We provide the service in two ways:

  • Onsite: A quick neck or upper-back massage used to relieve stress. Available in one to twenty minute sessions.
  • Offsite: Can be used in an office setting, or for larger groups as a quick pick-me-up on workers' break times or during office meetings.

Chinese & Herbal Medicine (Back to Top)

Herbal Medicine is the therapeutic use of plants, and is one of the oldest forms of health care in the world. Depending on your specific needs, we prescribe specific herbs that produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that act upon the body. Different herbs have been effectively used for a wide range of medicinal purposes including pain relief, hormone balancing, sleep enhancement, improved digestion, skin soothing, and stress relief.

Deep Tissue Massage (Back to Top)

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don’t get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.

Ear Candling (Back to Top)

Historically used by people who may suffer from itchy inner ears, hearing loss, or ear infections, Ear Candling may also provide relief from sinus infections, nasal congestion, or migraine headaches. It's a simple and safe way of removing ear wax and toxins that have collected in the ear. Ear coning may also help to improve your hearing, smell, taste, vision and color perception, and it will help to detoxify your sinus and lymph system. It helps to decrease headaches and open your sinus cavities. Most people enjoy the process and find it to be very relaxing — some to the point of drifting off to sleep. Sounds similar to ocean waves or a crackling campfire have been described. We use ear cones that resemble hollow candles. The larger end is lit and the smaller end is placed comfortably into your ear. Ear coning uses a vacuum process to remove the old wax and bacteria build up from your ear that can cause ear aches, loss of hearing, sinus pressure, ringing, and fluid in ears.

Lymphatic Drainage (Back to Top)

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, MLD can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness.

Medical Massage (Back to Top)

Medical Massage differs from regular massage and bodywork in that the treatment is specifically directed to resolve conditions diagnosed by a medical doctor. We may use a variety of modalities or techniques during the treatment, but we focus the treatment on the specific areas of the body related to the diagnosis. This enhances the body’s natural self-healing process and reduces the needed recovery time from injury. With your doctor's referral, we will bill your Auto Insurance or Workmans Comp.

Moxibustion (Back to Top)

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used for healing purposes throughout Asia for thousands of years. The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of Qi (energy), and enhance overall vitality and health.

Among other benefits, a landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that up to 75% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the bladder meridian.

Myofascial Massage (Back to Top)

Fascia is the tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot without interruption. Myofascial Release consists of gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. Pressure applied slowly, along with stretches, will allow the fascia to elongate.

Orthopedic Massage (Back to Top)

A Structural Approach to Pain Management

Orthopedic Massage involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation, and movement of locomotor soft tissues to reduce or eliminate pain and dysfunction. A unique multidisciplinary approach is utilized to restore structural balance throughout the body which will allow us to focus on the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions, chronic pain and sports injuries. The primary modalities that are used include functional assessment, myofascial release, cross fiber gliding strokes, neuromuscular therapy, scar tissue mobilization techniques, p.n.f. stretching, neuromuscular re-education, strengthening, and specific client home care protocols. The combination of these techniques will allow us to obtain immediate and permanent results in even the most challenging and complicated clients.

Reflexology (Back to Top)

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet. Unlike other foot massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. Every part of the human body is mapped into the feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.

Reiki (Back to Top)

Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that cleanses and balances the energy patterns in the body. As a result, the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum mental, emotional, and physical health.

During a session, your therapist will work with an energetic connection with you in order to remove blockages, detoxify your energy system, and restore your vital life force energy.
The Reiki technique utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between patient and practitioner. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.

Shiatsu Massage (Back to Top)

Shiatsu Massage is a Japanese form of massage. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - "shi" (finger) and "atsu" (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Qi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.

Sports Massage (Back to Top)

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body’s natural immune function.

Stone Therapy is a type of bodywork that uses deep penetrating heat and/or alternating cold from specialized stones. The physiological benefits of alternating hot and cold to the body have long been scientifically and medically proven.

Thai Yoga Massage combines passive yoga-like stretching with gentle pressure along your body’s natural energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle tension, and enhance your overall well-being.  The session is performed on a special mat on the floor, leaving you with a deeply nourished, relaxed and energized feeling.  Be sure to wear comfortable clothing that will allow for a full range of motion during the stretches.

Trigger Point Therapy (Back to Top)

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle tissue rather than along the energy pathways of the body.  These "knots" are built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
