Acupuncture FAQ
Do you accept health insurance?
We accept Health Partners, Medica, UHC, Cigna and PreferredOne medical insurance for acupuncture. Typically you do not need a doctor's referral. Give us a call to discuss your health plan benefits or to make an appointment to see our licensed acupuncturist.
Are your acupuncturists licensed?
Yes. Amanda and Carrie are both licensed by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice. Both graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University with Masters degrees in Oriental Medicine. Their qualifications also include passing board exams through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Are the needles sterile?
Yes. All of our needles are sterile, one time use needles. They are immediately disposed of in a proper sharps container upon removal.
I'm afraid of needles. Will acupuncture hurt?
Because acupuncture involves ultra-thin, solid needles, similar in size to a strand of hair (unlike large, hollow, hypodermic needles), the sensation felt with acupuncture is much different and milder than that from blood draws or injections. Because everybody's interpretation of sensory stimulation is different, people report many various sensations. Some people feel nothing at all. Some feel a slight sensation that has been compared to a mosquito bite. Others feel warmth or coolness, buzzing, or a slight distention.
If this is a concern you have, know that we are here to answer all of your questions. Because your comfort is of utmost importance to us, we will take the time to talk with you and treat you with gentleness and respect.
